Frustrated?
Can’t get that scholarship?
Here’s why...
Learn to think like a manager
and you'll get that scholarship much faster...
Plus soon you'll become a manager yourself!
So let’s get started:
What do managers care about most?
❌ Your location?
❌ Your name?
❌ Your age?
No...
Their investment...
They want the project to be a huge success!
And to join in on this fun...
...you need to act the same 👯
How?
Take John...
He created a utility website for a play to earn project
That showed me he cared... A LOT
So I immediately offered him a scholarship 🧑🎓
But you can’t make a website you say?
You don’t have to...
Simply join the project discord and start showcasing your knowledge
Where to get this knowledge?
It’s easy...
Monitor the discord for a couple days...
...and you see the same questions over and over
Note the answers...
And start helping out
Simply redirecting people to the correct channel is an easy one...
Anyone can do THAT...
Now you’re showcasing an active presence in the project
...and managers love this 😍
But how do they know you’re looking for a scholarship?
Be creative: add a small note to your username
Just don’t turn into a billboard
Nobody likes those 👎
If you want to write an application...
...then each project has a discord channel for that
Post your info in there and go answer questions
Because it's not what you say...
...but what you DO ✅
Once a good manager sees you helping out, they check your discord history and find your application:
If everyone is doing one thing, then you do the opposite
So when I quickly scroll through the applications, yours jumps out 🤩
Make an effort because a lazy copy/paste is easy to discover!
And use your discord avatar:
I once hired a scholar purely based on her avatar
While everyone had pictures of their dog, her avatar was gaming-related
And I was looking for a gamer, so I hired her 🧑🎓
Always think and act like a manager...
It makes you much stronger vs. a “spam and pray” scholar
Such spammer thinks:
If I beg all over discord, people will see and hire me
But the manager thinks:
This troublemaker is incapable of following simple rules
...and will hire a positive contributor instead
Then once you’re hired:
👉 Align expectations right away e.g. what’s the promotion schedule and availability requirement?
If a manager needs you 24/7 then say goodbye
👉 Call your manager by name and not “sir”, “boss”, “lord” etc. You’re an equal human and not a slave.
If the manager doesn’t like this then look for a better one
👉 Found a bug? Report it to the project and copy your manager, instead of simply complaining about it
👉 Be honest… experienced managers have seen every excuse 1000x already, including yours
👉 Always keep up-to-date on the latest project news
